Muresk Arena. June 12th, 13th 14th.

Muresk was  a new venue for some and an old one for others.  Many trials were run at  Muresk  in the past, including the State yard and Utility, and the National kelpie field trial .

It has been many years since a trial was held there.

Muresk is a working farm that is also an Agricultural training and research centre.

It is an attractive venue, with the camping ground providing  a lovely view of the trialling action. The cast was approximately 160metres. The sheep blended in with the hessian at the other end and caused a few problems for some dogs.

The novice sheep were young and solid and inclined to stand and stare at the dog and not move. This also caused some problems, but most people had their full time out there and a good chance to work them.

Time constraints necessitated a 12 minute trial so there were not a lot of pens. Also due to time only eight  dogs ran in the final.

The open sheep were a bit touchier and more inclined to want to head back down the ground in a hurry, so required careful handling. Generally though, they broke in fairly well.

The weather was lovely for trialling but not for the local farmers who are desperate for rain after one of the driest and warmest May/June periods ever. It did get a little chilly when the wind sprung up but otherwise was warm and sunny.
