DogPro Plus. Binnaburrra yard and Utility.
21st to 23rd June
The second utility trial of the year was held at Binnaburra, the property of Gordon and Sara Curtis, near Kellerberrin.
The weather was very mild, which was a little unusual. Binnaburra is known for crunching frosts and Arctic winds but this year was quite different. Friday and Saturday were warmish and pleasant.
On Sunday however, a much needed cold front moved in and dumped 18mm of rain on the ground muddying the yards and making it a little uncomfortable for competitors. It was very welcome for the local farmers though, as it has been a dry year.
The sheep were Merino ewe hoggets, beautifully presented, and were supplied by Alec and Sue Stevens. They were good trial sheep, but dogs with feel and eye did struggle on them. They just wanted to stand and look and refused to turn away. Freer moving dogs handled them a lot better.
Outside, they were good obstacle sheep, and in the yard flowed fairly well, although the first gather and the truck did cause a few issues.
There were 22 entries in the novice utility, 28 in the novice yard, 24 in the open utility and 29 in the open yard.
Encourage was won by Neil Whyte and Barkervale Cobber.
