Happy Birthday to Jane Dorrell for a Very Special Birthday on Friday 13th July

Kendenup is a small country town just off the main Albany Highway and only about an hour north of Albany. The trial is held at the community grounds in a beautiful bush setting with modern facilities.

The Stirling Club Kendenup Trial is definitely a circuit favourite each year and it is usually over-supported with entries to the extent that runs have to be cut to 6 or less for each competitor. This year was a little different with a few of our trial family off the circuit for one reason or another meaning that triallers could enter a maximum of 8 runs, circumstances we haven't seen in many years.

The sheep provided an excellent challenge. They were ewe hoggets from a consistent line of a NZ composite breed called a Greeline (http://www.greelinesheep.co.nz) and kindly supplied for our use by the Slade family.  We thank the Slade family for their continued support of sheep dog trialling in WA.

Greelines are a bit heavier than the Merinos or Dohnes that we usually have access to and competitors look forward to the challenge of working something a little bit different to the norm. They worked beautifully for the dogs that kept off their head and let them walk, but they were happy to stand up to any dog that tried to tell them where to go! The occasional one was an individual breakaway with a mind of its own trying to lead the 3 astray; and there were a few runners amongst the mob too when they took it upon themselves to go. Somebody must have told the Open Final sheep to provide extra challenge to "sort the men from the boys"... they definitely seemed to be more testy than any of the sheep leading up to that point.

A barbecue was available on Friday night with a social chat around the fire pit and Saturday night saw all the Dorrell clan turn up to celebrate their Mum (Jane's) 50th Birthday with the rest of her (sheep dog) family and a bit of cake around the fire pit.

There were 37 runs in Novice with 17 scores, 32 runs in Improver with 10 scores and 48 runs in Open with 27 scores.
