DogPro Plus Kendenup Arena trial, 16-18th August. It was back to an arena trial for Kendenup after recently running their first Utility trial for many years. Kendenup is a picturesque small town, 345 Kms south of Perth. The sheep were beautifully presented Greelines from Glenridge park Mount Barker, and bred by David, Lynnn and Andrew Slade. The Greeline is a stabilized composite that was developed in New Zealand after selecting from the best Coopworth, East Friesian and Texel genetics for fertility, milk, mothering ability and superior growth and carcase qualities. Although only last years lambs, they were huge sheep with an attitude to match. They were difficult to read, and even though at times they worked well, they could also run at the slightest provocation, and keep running. The first obstacle was the most difficult, but the bridge and the pen were much easier, if one managed to get that far. Many people retired at the first obstacle though, and there were also many crosses over the weekend. It is a long cast, with the back fence often in shadow and some dogs did not see the sheep. They also quickly worked out the weaker dogs and simply stood their ground. They settled a bit for the open event. The weather on Friday was quite pleasant but from Friday evening onwards it was wet, cold and miserable. As rain was needed in the area locals were not displeased, but it did make trialing and exercising dogs uncomfortable. Sunday was a bit better, with bouts of sunshine in between the showers. In the novice there were 37 runs with 11 scores, in the improver 38 runs with 11 scores and in the open 58 runs and 30 scores. Results. Novice Judged by Brad Rose. 1st. Neil Eastough.
