Margaret River Show Trial (Unofficial)

Friday 18th - Saturday 19th October

"Perfect weather for trialling" was the consensus at Margaret River Show this year. Added to that the grassed trial ground, very workable & recently shorn sheep (once again courtesy of the Silverthorne family) and the laid back atmosphere of this lovely south west town proved the perfect ingredients for a very enjoyable trial.

Due to a full programme sheep had to be recycled, which led to some "interesting" runs, but this was not a problem for an unofficial trial. Brad's run with Flier was notable, with both the bridge and pen having to be worked twice as the sheep entered both obstacles before he reached them!

Many competitors took advantage of the Novice event's allowance for a shorter cast(at a cost of 20 points) and one cross on the cast without disqualification. The benefits of this were impressive: calmer work and progress further through the course for young dogs being notable.

The sheep having been worked down before the trial required the dogs to work in close, meaning crosses could happen extremely quickly. In 45 Novice runs there were 11 scores, 15 crosses and a few retires. This improved in the 54 Open runs with 26 scores and 14 crosses and even in the final 12, there were 3 crosses.
