Kendenup arena trial. (Centrals Club). 5-7th March

The second trial of the year was held at Kendenup and run by Central districts. Kendenup is about 350kms south of Perth.

Its a small town, but with a lovely atmosphere. Most people enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Golf Club on Friday evening.

The weather was unusually warm, and the humidity made it even more uncomfortable, although some cloud cover provided some relief at times.

The sheep were provided by the Dorrell family from Narrikup. They were superbly presented Purebred stud Dohne sheep. And even if they were somewhat difficult to work, they looked fantastic and were a credit to the breeders.

They could run very fast, and many dogs simply struggled to keep up with them. They were difficult to bring down the ground and repeatedly tried to break back towards the letouts, so took some holding. Getting them from the workers circle and back towards the winding pegs was the hardest and they zigzagged all the way up.

The only dogs that handled them were smooth moving calm dogs that kept a long way off. Despite all this they were quite good at the obstacles. The race was the most difficult, but after that they were quite happy to gallop up the bridge and most people who made it to the pen managed to get them in.

They were a worthy challenge, and provided some good entertainment for spectators.

2nd. Frank Sutherland. Rocky Bindi. 57+42=99

3rd. Rick Janitz. Ramulam Bee. 52+44=96. Kelpie.

4th. Jan Cornish. Belview Bailey 41.

5th. Nan Lloyd. Kumbark Lexi. 38. Kelpie.

6th. Tony Boyle. Boylee Whitie. 15.
