Kendenup Trials 25th-27th March 2011

Kendenup trials are always popular and well attended.

It’s a great venue, lovely grounds, good food and lots of shade.

Which was handy as it was once again quite hot, so anyone who had runs in the middle of the day had a difficult time.

The sheep were older ewes and quite good trial sheep mostly but the heat bought the worst out in them, they didn't want to be run around and would rather stand in the shade.

The shade was right on the fence near the letouts so some of the sheep ran out of the letouts and back onto the fence. A number of dogs crossed on the pickup, as it was quite difficult to get them off the fence.

And as the competitors came around the winding pegs the sheep would once again head for the shade on the fence. It then became difficult to get them back on course.

They were a little tricky to get through the first obstacle, but raced keenly up the bridge. It proved difficult however to keep in the pen and a number of competitors penned them only to have them blast out again, usually over the top of the dog.

Due to time constraints, runs were limited and as soon as enough scores were on the board competitors where then ‘rung off’ as soon as a certain number of points were gone. This was necessary to complete the trial in time. The problem of too many entries is becoming an issue and clubs are trying different methods to try to make if fair to everyone.
