MAYANUP 3 SHEEP  TRIAL  held at YALLAMBEE  from 11th to 14th August

Mayanup held its annual 3 sheep event at the picturesque property of Ken and Jenny Atherton’s near Arthur River.
The weather was sunny for most of the time but a chill wind kept people in warm jackets.

Some rain and wind arrived on the Sunday, but was not too unpleasant.

The sheep were challenging Dohne crosses, strong, fast and inclined to split at the drop of a hat. They did not like being pressured, and disliked the first obstacle.

Dogs that worked calm and wide and managed to arrive safely at the race, then ran into real trouble as the sheep refused to even look down the obstacle let alone actually go through it.

There were a lot of crosses and retires and many people used up the 50 allotted points very quickly, as the sheep made frequent mad dashes for freedom.
From 50 entries in the novice only 16 competitors managed a score and in the Improver there were only 12 scores from 58 entries.

The open event provided a few more scores but pens were few and far between.

The open final was a close one with Ken Atherton winning the event on the second last run of the day with a stylish run from Ramulam Gus.
