Kendenup State Arena

The smalll town of Kendenup in the South of WA was the host for the State Arena Championships this year. Kendenup is app 340 Km south of Perth.

Despite a number of the more competitive triallers having headed over east to compete, there were still plenty of entries, people taking advantage of fewer competitors and entering more dogs than usual.

The nights were chilly but it warmed up fairly quickly, becoming a bit uncomfortable for those with runs in the hottest part of the day.

The sheep were crossbreeds, unusual for WA trial sheep and something different for many people.

They were good looking and solid and a little tricky to work. They were very responsive to movement and sound, and if headed too much they ran around in circles  They behaved quite well if they could be driven from behind, with minimal movement.

The race and the pen were fairly tricky, so there were only a handful of pens over the weekend. Once the sheep realised there was no escape from the pen they were too smart to go in.

But they were forgiving sheep and gave most people a good opportunity to work them as they rarely split and  did not run too far even if pressured.
