Yallambee, a property owned by Ken and Jenny Atherton was host for the first three sheep trial since June 21st.  Yallambee is on the Albany Highway approximately 140 Kms south of Perth

There were a number of yard and utility trials filling the gap in-between.

The weather was good in contrast to recent years although the mornings were cold and frosty. It warmed up on Sunday to become almost uncomfortable for some dogs and handlers.

Also in contrast to recent years the sheep were a little more workable, although they quickly took advantage of  any opportunities to head for the hills or over the fence. They were Dohne crosses and they were fast, and they did not like the first obstacle, or any obstacle for that matter. They did seem to settle as the weekend wore on though, and the more experienced dogs handled them a little better.

The 40 point ring off was used so a fair few competitors were rung off, as the sheep dashed off course or raced around the obstacles instead of through them. This kept scores to a minimum, so there were only 9 scores in the novice from 52 runs, 18 scores in the improver from 49 runs and in the open there were 39 scores from 66 runs.

The open and improver events were run as one to save on time and keep the event to a three day trial.

However it made it a long haul for Judge Nick Webb.
