NKFTC 2012 Binnaburra WA.

The NKFTC was held held this year at Binnaburra near Kelleberrin in WA’s Eastern Wheatbelt,. Binnaburra is the property of Gordon and Sara Curtis.

The weather was typical WA Wheatbelt weather with freezing nights and warmish days, in fact on the Saturday it became uncomfortably warm reaching almost 28 degrees.

On the final day the clouds rolled and with perfect timing the rain bucketed down a short while after all the presentations were done. Rain was much needed and put a smile on the faces of the locals.

The events commenced with the novice and open, ‘anything but registered kelpie trials’ on Wednesday the 8th of August.

The finals were run on Thursday Morning.

The sheep for these events were merino wethers about 12 months old, March shorn. They were well grown and fairly workable and resulted in some high scores. Both these events were run under the WA utility Trialling rules and regulations

The NKFTC commenced on Fri the 19th of August a little after lunch.

These sheep were sisters to the ones used for the Novice kelpie trial but were somewhat more difficult to work. They required some pushing especially to move them from the paddock into the yard and if hassled too much or not headed quickly they could run very fast and very far. And if they thought they could challenge the dog they did. They could also jump fences and if they decided they did not like the yard they were in, or the dog, they would leap over the fence, either back outside, or into the next yard. This caused a few problems for some people.

All the runoffs finished on Sun morning and the final commenced about 1pm Sunday.

It was an exciting event and great to see many spectators enjoying the action.
