Mayanup Arena Mayanup held its annual arena trial at Yallambee, Ken and Jenny Athertons property just off the Albany Highway at Arthur River app 140kms south of Perth. The weather was the most challenging part for Fri and Sat. Bitter cold winds and freezing rain had most of us bundled in thick jackets, hats and gloves. The fire near the canteen was a popular area but a lot of people sat in their cars along the edge of the trial ground. Sunday was a little better and we enjoyed some warm sunshine. The sheep were young Dohne ewes which had a reputation for being very difficult to work. However this year they were a lot more amenable and there were quite a few pens and some reasonable scores in the novice, despite the 40 point ring off. However towards the end of the Improver/open event they became more difficult to work. There was a 30 point ring off for this event so many people did not get very far. The open dogs were more up to the task though and gained some respectable tallies. The Improver and open were run together to save time and finals were ran for both the novice and the improver events. For the novice there were 51 entries and 12 scores, the Improver had 57 entries with 18 scores, while the open had 73 entries and 36 scores. Results. Encourage, judged by Wayne Hall. 1st. Just a little bit of sheperding going on here. Well blocked Sue.
