Binnaburra Yard And Utility. July 4th 5th 6th.

The second utility trial for the year was held at Binnaburra near Kellerberrin in the eastern Wheatbelt, app 200km east of Perth.

 The weather proved interesting, Thursday night was bitterly cold with a frost on Fri morning to start off the trial, and some bitter cold winds for most of the day. Saturday was considerably warmer, and jackets were shed in favour of short sleeves. Sunday was pleasant but the wind picked up as the clouds gathered. The trial finished at 1.30pm just before the rain started. The wind got gale force as we attempted to pack up the ground, and rolling up the black plastic that goes around the yards was challenging. In fact it took eight people to manhandle each roll and stop it blowing away. At one point as a roll looked set to head skyward a flying rugby tackle from Hayden Harries bought it to the ground, where it was sat on by a number of people, while it was safely rolled up.

The sheep for the trial were light young ewes that caused a few problems. They were inclined to jump fences in the yard if pushed too hard and were also inclined to race around the obstacles instead of through them if over headed. If worked steadily they flowed quite well.

The open yard was as usual a tight finish with only six points seperating the top 10 dogs.

There were 27 entries in the Novice Utility, 34 in the Open Utility, 33 in the Novice Yard and 37 in the Open Yard.
