Ongerup Arena

Ongerup Arena Feb. 21-23rd.

Being the first trial of the year Ongerup is always a good social event to catch up with friends and check out new dogs.

Ongerup is a small town app 430 Kms south of Perth.

Ongerup can be hot, but this year we were fairly lucky with the weather, the first two days hovered about 28 degrees and the nights were lovely and cool. On Sunday however, the temp reached about 35 and it was not much fun for man or beast.

The sheep had a little more wool on than usual but were not any easier to work than they have been in previous years.

They simply did not like the dogs, or the obstacles, or anything much really, so many people failed to get past the first obstacle.

The ring off system was used so there were only 5 scores in the novice from 55 runs and five scores in the improver from 59 runs. Most people got rung off, or retired, or crossed, or had a sheep over the fence.

At least the sheep were consistent though, and gave no favours.

In the open there were 21 scores from 65 entries.

There were only a handful of pens over the weekend which is fairly typical of Ongerup sheep.

The ring off system was not used in the open in an effort to gain enough scores to be able to run a final.
