Tarwonga Yard and Utility. April 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th.

This year was the 25th year that Utility trials have been held at Tarwonga. The property ‘Sunnyside” is owned by Eric Athertons family and is about 1 and a half hours south of Perth.

The sheep for most events were older ewes that have seen it all before and were large, cunning and fairly light to work. In the field work they had a tendency to split and  run back to their mates in the yard making it difficult to persuade them to come off the fence. In the yard they were solid and required some shifting, especially off the truck.

The sheep for the open finals were younger and easier to work.

The nights were cool and the days uncomfortably warm as is common at this time of the year. The rain came Saturday night to settle the dust and make things a little more pleasant for the finals on Sunday.
