Wagin State Arena. Oct 23rd to 26th. The Wheatbelt town of Wagin was the venue for the state Championship this year. Wagin is a small town about 2 1/2 hours south of Perth and home of the famous Wagin Woolerama, a huge sheep and machinery show held in March each year. The sheep were young merino ewes. They were tricky to work and took a while to break in. Once broken in however they became a little difficult to move. Quite a few competitors came to a stop at the bridge when the sheep refused to go over, simply standing and looking at the dog, and if forced too much they split. Despite this there were a fair number of pens and some high scores and the sheep remainied fairly consistent throughout the trial. The weather was quite good. After a thunderstorm and heavy rain the day before the trial it stayed partly cloudy for the 4 days, becoming a little too warm when the sun emerged but mainly quite pleasant. There were 49 entries in the novice with 11 scores, 54 entries in the Improver with 17 scores and 69 entries in the Open with 38 scores. A 40 point ring off was used for the novice and Improver but dropped for the open. The open was an exciting event with only 6 points separating the top 5. The centrals club would like to thank the Wagin shire, Bairstowes transport for carting the sheep, Scanlons for supplying the sheep and Grainfeeds for the dog food. Results.
