This year the State Yard and Utility was held at a new venue at Kondinin in the eastern Wheatbelt on the property of Neil and Wendy White.

It was a great trial and most people enjoyed trialling on a new ground and testing their dogs.

Goodness they did get tested?

Outside the sheep did not want to mob together, go into the small pen near the yards, or comply in any way. They must have descended from a line of show jumpers as fences meant nothing to them, they simply hopped over.

Some modifications where made as we went along and this helped somewhat.

There was only one pen for the whole trial, many people did not gain many points outside.

In the yard, many runs came to an abrupt end when the sheep just scaled the fences with ease. Once the fences where raised here and there this got better. Otherwise they worked quite well through the yards, although the first gather was tricky for some.

When the truck was added for the open, this caused a few issues getting them off, but in the end there were some good yard scores.

They were beautifully presented sheep, in great condition, and I am sure most handlers (and the dogs) enjoyed the challenge. The weather was uncomfortably warm on Friday but did cool down a little for the last two days.

Being the last Yard and Utility for the year, DOY was presented.

Utility dog of the year was Simon Leanings Marionvale Di. Simon also received the breeders trophy.

Yard dog of the year was Allan Dunn’s GoGetta Thor.

Being the State yard dog winner, Nigel Armstrong and Yarralonga Opal became our state rep for next years Australian Yard dog championship. Our other rep is Allan Dunn and Gogetta Thor.
