Mayanup Sheepdog Club were the hosts for the first Yard and Utility trial for the year,

The event was held at Ken and Jenny Atherton’s property in Arthur River.

The weather was unseasonably warm, which did not help the recently germinated grass, which was growing madly from recent heavy rain.

It has been a dry year for many areas in WA.

The sheep were challenging as per usual, but dogs that managed to keep hold of them found they settled and worked quite well.

Their tendency to hang on the far fence made it difficult to pick them up, but it was a great challenge.

They generally worked quite well through the yard, but it was not easy to get them off the truck. They decided that halfway down the ramp was far enough and required some persuasion to walk to the bottom.

Many points were lost here, but the experienced dogs still managed some high scores.

 It was a good trial with a great atmosphere. The highlight being the wonderful BBQs in the evening.
