Held at Wagin Woolorama
by Central Districts Working Sheep Dog Club
March 7th – 8th 2025

Our 2025 trial season opened at Wagin as part of the Woolorama Agriculture show.  Wagin is approx. 225 km south of Perth.

This event was run by the Central Districts Working Sheepdog club who managed to do a fabulous job.

The weather was hot and sunny with temperatures rising to 38-39c on Thursday and Friday then easing to 27 on Saturday.  This caused many triailers to retire their dogs as they got hot and ran out of energy.

The sheep were blue tag ewes in top condition.  They were, however, tough to manage as they were light and inclined to split apart, often with one sheep disregarding the dog and heading to the let-out. The experienced dogs that could stay quiet and work from a distance had the most success.

Last year’s Open winner Marionvale Di managed to make the double by winning this year’s event.  Di was the last one out in the final and made a textbook run to take out the event from Ivan Solomon and Rocky Fran with Ken Atherton and Ramulam Prickles hot on their heels for third place.

The top five place getters in the Improver competed in a final with Steve Wallace with Pendalup Pete taking victory from Hayden Harries with Just Buster.

Karyn Buller and Boonining Turbo got one for the Kelpies by taking the victory in the Novice event closely followed by Steve Wallace with Rocky Roxy in Second place.

A very special thanks to our judges, Gibb McDonald and Nan Lloyd who braved the hot weather while the rest of us were able to sit down in a shady spot.

During the weekend we drew large crowds for the event.  Neil Whyte worked the PA system keeping the punters entertained and up-to-date with what was happening on the ground.

The club used the on-line scoring system to keep everyone on the ground informed. They were able to print off the results as soon as each event finished.  There were numerous people around Australia monitoring the scores during the weekend. The post reached 639 people, and the system was accessed 901 times by people watching the scores.

West Australian Working Sheepdog Association held their Annual General Meeting on Friday night.  We would like to Congratulate Jenny Atherton and Grant Cooke who were voted as Life Members in acknowledgement for their services.
Grant was returned as the President.  Simon Leaning was selected as Vice President. Tanya Crozier was elected as the Secretary and Jenny Atherton retained the role of Treasurer.
